About Miksang coaching

Experience shows that after a Miksang Retreat (or multiple) and/or after an online Miksang course, the inspiration for seeing fresh and geuien photogrpaahy tend to fade. Conventional viewing and the ambition of 'beautiful photos' take over again! Unconsioulsy, consciously - in a way very logical. After all, you have been labelling, dividing into 'I like it' and 'I don't like it' and judging for so long! In short, you have been investing in rational and reasoning thinking for so long that this has become your best trained habit.


There is something sticky and persistent in reasoning and ananlyzing: when you experience and recognize a flash of perception, and the moment you press the button on your camera, it occurs to you suddenlt think 'I have to take a beautiful photo!'


Either you are too strict, or you are too loose,loc  about what Miksang is and is not.

Can I edit my photos? And how?

Do you think you should leave your photos pure? Do you think you should crop the photo because the 'rectangle' often doesn't fit?

In the beginning of your Miksang practice I discourage post-processing of photos. Why? Because your conceptual view and your photographic/creative ambition are still very active. Because of this you often don't trust your fresh view (yet) and you don't trust it while looking at your photos either: you start thinking reasoning, become critical, start doubting. or your perfectionism rears its head, or you call it 'Miksang' too quickly. Suddenly the photo is boring, or 'I've already taken this' or 'someone has already photographed this', or you make it more contrasty or make the colours brighter or lighter, or you think 'most of them aren't good enough' or 'it's fine like this, doesn't need post-processing' or 'yes, fresh!' and you don't straighten the photo, don't crop it or adjust the exposure.


Now that you are more settled in Miksang as a practice: in the Miksang approach, post-processing is the aspect of balance. With this you edit your photos so that it shows exactly as you saw it. With this you practice sincerity and precision, and the inner and outer Miksang teachings come together.

How often can I join?

As often as you want - your 10 photos will be reviewed and you will learn just as much from the discussions of and with your Miksang buddies. Each session Hèlen will bring up one or more aspects of the Miksang practice.


It is most beneficial if you select and submit your photos once a month: this way you will stay in touch with the Miksang approach after your Miksang courses/retreats, and it will also prevent yourself from slipping back into your conceptual or reasoning approach.
